Interview with F’iona Mesha

What is your stage name and your real name?

My stage name is F’iona Mesha’, pronounced Fee-on-ah Mah-shay. This is an extension of my real name Fiona. Most people see my name and think of Shrek when it isn’t pronounced that way, I think it’s a cute way to be remembered.

Where are you from?

I am originally from Detroit, Michigan. I recently relocated to my new home in Atlanta, Georgia from Orlando, Florida.

What do you do?

I am a trained singer and songwriter, I’ve been in the music industry since the age of five.

When was the first time you performed?

I performed in front of thousands of people for the first time, at the age of five, for the University of Iowa’s concert choir. It was the first time that I realized what I wanted to do with my life.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Sometimes it’s hard for me to pick the accomplishment that stands out as my biggest. There are so many personal milestones that I’m grateful to have experienced while on my journey. Some of my most memorable accomplishments were charting number 14 on the Billboard gospel digital charts, with my song “Feeling’ It’ and getting a tv sync for the sim “Come Back Home”. My biggest accomplishment has yet to happen, it’s only up from here.

Today F’iona released her new EP “Scraps Of My Imagination”. The wonderful EP includes dogs such as “Feelin It” and “What’s Meant For You”.

How has Covid affected your journey?

Covid has had such a positive impact on my musical journey. Not only did I move to Atlanta during Covid, but my music career, as an independent artist, took off. I met so many amazing people who believed in me along the way. While everyone was in the house dug deep into Protools.. I’ve always tracked myself, but now I’ve evolved into an engineer, recording others. I love the amount of creative control that I have when I’m in my zone. This pandemic really gave me the confidence I needed to step out on my own.

Are you working on any projects?

I have an EP, “Scraps of my Imagination” that will be released on Sunday, December 11th. It will be on all streaming platforms; I’m extremely excited to have the world hear what I’ve been working on for the last year! I want to start a new wave in the world of gospel music, something like what Kirk Franklin did in his era when he transformed gospel. Growing up my mother would force my siblings and I to listen to gospel music, secular wasn’t allowed. I would hate that every song would start with an organ or not have the thump of the bass behind it. I want people to bob their heads to my records whether they believe in God or not.

What’s your next move?

After the release of my EP I have a joint project that will be coming out close to Christmas that I did with a super dope creative, Davis Chris. We wanted to create some dope Christmas records that would bang.

Where can the world listen to your music?

All of my music can be found on Apple Music or your streaming platform of choice. Just type my name in, and boom!

Where do you see yourself in one year?

In a year I see myself continuing to create and collaborate with others. fionaA want to give a huge thank you to every single person who has supported me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
