IamDerby is a talented music artist hailing from Portsmouth, Virginia. Derby plays the drums, audio engineers, and produces music. He has been making music for over twelve years, but taking it more serious in the last two. IamDerby started rapping in seventh grade. He has had a passion for music since he was younger. One of his biggest accomplishments thus far is the rising success of his latest single and music video to “Take Me Away” (feat. Rosamira & WanBob). The video has gained over twenty five thousand views in less than a month. IamDerby has also been featured on other platforms such as; Thisis50, HipHopSince1987, TheHypeMagazine, Genius, and more.

What is your real name & stage name?
My birth name is Darius House and I’m known by all of my close friends as “Derby” and all of my fans know me as “IamDerby”.
Where are you from?
Portsmouth, Virginia (aka “Pistol City”) is where I was born and raised.
What do you do?
I am an artist, musician (drummer), audio engineer, producer, and I do a little acting from time to time when the opportunity arises.
How long have you been in your industry?
I’ve been in the music industry going on 12 years, approximately. I started rapping and recording when I was in the seventh grade. 2011 is around when I started. I didn’t really start to take it serious though until about two years ago now and really learning the business and fundamentals behind this field.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
Personally, my biggest accomplishment is my latest song/ music video titled “Take Me Away” (feat. Rosamira & WanBob). At its release, I’ve gained over 25,000 + views in less than a month! I’ve gained numerous amounts of new fans and followers. From the song, I’ve been featured on major placements such as Thisis50, HipHopSince1987, TheHypeMagazine, Genius, etc;.
How has COVID affected you on your journey?
I believe covid has affected everyone’s journey in each industry or field they may be in. So yes. But I also believe during covid, if you didn’t take it as negative, it allowed people to become more creative in their fields. So as for me, live performances stopped for a while but I learned the power of the internet and how to reach my audience in that aspect and now that restrictions has lightened up, I can do both now.
What's your next move?
I haven’t told anyone this yet so here is some exclusive content specifically for you! I’m actually working on a commercial for Mary J Blige’s wine company called “Sun Goddess Wines”; being that my latest song / music video samples her classic hit song “Everything”. My song will be featured in the commercial but that’s all I can tell you right now. Big moves on the way this year in 2023.
Are you working on any projects?
Like I stated in the last question I have the wine commercial currently in the works right now. I have some music videos I’m about to shoot and have ready for release from my debut album “A Pain So Beautiful” in which I’ll leave the link at the end of this interview to find everything “IamDerby”. I have a song that I engineered for my very close friend “Ouwopp” (@bosswopp200_ via Instagram) in which it features Kodak Blacks new artist “NFL Tuewop” (@nfl_tuewop vid Instagram). I’ve had a beat that I produced for Goonew (@goonew64 via Instagram) early 2021 but unfortunately we lost him in that tragic situation last year. I’ve also opened up for Slaughter Gang artist, Young Nudy, to add on to my list of accomplishments. I can’t remember exactly what year that was though; between 2019 and 2020 I think. This list goes on and on.
Where do you see yourself in 1 year?
In the next year I see my self having a feature with a major artist wether it be a beat I’ve produced or having them as a feature on one of my tracks. I’m focused and determined to become a verified artist and furthering my career. By the year 2024 is here I will already be an well known and established artist in the music industry.
