Interview with @KaysOnyewuchi

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

Originally from Lagos, Nigeria but I reside in Vancouver, Canada B.C.

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?

I go by the name of Kays which is my first name, Kays Onyewuchi.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?

Music is a part of me and being an independent artist has always been the

Plan since childhood.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

Music has always been a part of me from the motherland to the true north strong and free, You will find my sound is unique and never heard before. My sound consists of many genres but there is only one Kays. You can take the man out of Africa but you cannot take the African sound out of me. If you like Afro Fusion, Afro Beats, Afro Pop, Dance Hall, Raga, etc, I am The Man.

I have passion behind every track with them all being true stories of my life to date There is something for everyone to relate to. No matter where you’re from or what colour you are.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

I am just Music. It is my purpose. I inspired myself, i’ve always known as a kid that i was

going to have a successful music career.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

Music heals and it is my therapy, I am a Singer, Song Writer & Producer so everything I write are real stories of my life to date. I know people will relate to my songs and hopefully to even inspire them.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I stay meditating and medicated with the herbs and locked in the studio. Opening my company here and being an independent artist, has always been my goal, so I live, sleep and breathe Kays Nation. I keep my vegan diet in check, stay active and really appreciate Mother Nature.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

Michael Jackson has been my childhood idol. I appreciate many other artists' legacy’s like Jay-Z, Chris Brown, Nipsey Hussle, Burna Boy, Akon, Justin Bieber, Wiz Kid, Celine Dion etc.

What are some of your music career goals for the future?

My future goal is to bring opportunities to other talented artists out there who may not have a chance to be heard like me.

Tell us about the project that you are promoting. What is it about? Is it a single or EP? Also, what is the name of the last project you released?

Right now I have a lot of projects on the go but I would like to bring things back to 2018 when I dropped my single “The Man” and a very politically interesting music video to go with it. “The Man” video was based on a true story of an unfortunate event that took place in South Africa and we had to include a political flip as well of course. BLM.

What has the response been like to that project?

“The Man” was a strong visual in my career and I am really excited to release more very soon that my team and I have in the works.

I still have hype about this track and the visuals are really relevant to the current political movement world wide and Nigeria #ENDSARS

What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?

I am proud of my growth with every project to date but I would have to shine light on my first EP “No Underrate” which was released on August 26th 2020 and consists of eight songs. I put a lot of work in creating each track, Writing, Singing and Producing each one. That is why I called the EP No Underrated because you shouldn't be sleeping on me.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

Next up, I will be releasing another EP “Heavenly Race” with 10 songs. March 1st 2021.

I am constantly producing music so make sure to connect with me on socials and all DSP’s. We have singles and Visuals coming this year with Kays Nation.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music?

Number one, whatever you put out in the world will always come back to you.

Always invest in yourself and just never give up.

I believe that there is a song for everyone in my music. I have hard songs that are relatable and motivational, Happy Dance songs and of course some love songs for my beautiful ladies. If I can change the energy in the room or at a show with my sound, then that is everything to me.
