Interview With @KvssieOfficial

1. What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

Montreal, Canada

2. What is your real name? What is your Stage Name? How did you get your artist name?

I’m literally Changing it live to KVSSIE my friends always call me Cassie and my mom wanted to name me with a K so it just fits. My real name is Cassandra Amber MacGibbon.

3. At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in your field?

I’ve been wanting to sing since the age of 4 and have been writing since 12. But I’ve only pursued music professionally within the last year. I kinda took a look at my life and realized I wasn’t passionate about what I was doing. Wasn’t doing well in school so I took a year off and when I did I told myself I’d do something I’ve always said I wanted to do but was too scared to do and that was music. I started and never stopped!

4. Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining you today? If so, how?

I think my experiences shaped my sound and not so much my upbringing. The minute I started writing my own music is the minute my voice changed. I would write music when I was feeling sad and in times of my life where I didn’t even want to live so writing really helped and shaped me as an artist and as a person. When I was younger I had trouble expressing myself and even would stutter. When I started writing that completely went away.

5. How would you describe yourself to readers who may not be familiar with you?

My sound is different. My style always changed but my tone never does. I would say I have a soulful voice and an emotional voice. When you hear my music you’ll feel like you’re right there with me living through what I did.

6. What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a your career?

I feel like most propel can relate to this but, at one point in my life I didn’t want to commit to music because of what one person told me. This person had influence and was a family friend and he had told me not to make music and so that scarred me because I was so young. It subconsciously played a role in me caring what people thought of my sound and of my music. But as time went on I’ve went through some life altering traumatizing experiences where I’d say that was the lowest I could ever be. Once you’re that low you can only go up. I completely gave up on caring about other people opinions and wanted to do it for myself and for people I could influence! So I turned fear into adrenaline and I went for it.

7. What’s one reason you are passionate about your focus and what inspires you?

The reason I’m so passionate is because I can completely create a whole sound and mood just with lyrics and a beat. It’s like asking why a writer loves to write, it’s because it’s the only way I can truly feel freedom and therapy. The more I write the more I gain wisdom and the more I gain wisdom the more I feel inspired.

8. Do you have any hobbies outside of your career? What do you do to stay creative?

Honestly I’m a girl of many talents and hobbies. I love playing sports. I’ve been playing soccer since 4, I play all types of sports for fun... basketball, football, track. I love writing fiction short stories, I model etc honestly I do so many things to stay busy and I keep my creativity by letting myself explore other hobbies and my learning new things

9. Who are some of your main musical influences?

My musical influences would have to be the voice of Christina aguilera, the metaphoric lyrics of the Beatles, new edition, frank ocean. The creative styles of teyana Taylor, tory lanez.

10. What are some of your career goals for the future?

My goals for the next year is to come out with an e.p of 6-7 songs and come out with a bunch of visuals for them! I also want to do a few cool collaborations as well.

11. Tell us about the project or something that you are promoting. What is it about Also, what is the name of the last thing thing you released?

12. What has the response been to the last thing you promoted?

People really loved the song! I was nervous because it is a really different sound but when I wrote it and recorded it the lyrics just came to me and it was purely how I was feeling. Those who listen to it tell me they have it on repeat and that they can relate and they can hear just how emotional I was.

13. What are some things you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?

What I’m really proud of is my performance at Jacquees. Not because of the performance itself but because I had achieved the show at only 6 months of coming out as an artist. It just showed me that I was really meant for music and that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.

14. What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming things we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

15. What message do you hope people take away from what you do?

I want my fans to listen to my music and think that if I’m writing about this experience and you’re going through the same thing then you’re not alone. There’s always someone in the world going through the same thing you are and to not let it stop you from gaining success in anything you do.
