Interview with @SophieBeeching

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

London, UK! I was born in West, but grew up between Brighton, East Sussex and Kent. Now living in Shoreditch (East London), but moving out to the states ASAP!

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?

Wish I had an artist name but sadly I’m just Sophie Anna Carol Beeching :P

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?

Music has always played a big part in my life. I picked up learning the piano and violin when I was four so I’ve always had an appreciation for sound. Although, I actually kicked off my career in fashion back when I was sixteen through working at London Fashion Week. I came to realise that fashion was NOT the path for me after my internship at Burberry. But still, I love the convergence of fashion and music and it’s great to see artists who are active in both worlds. I think deep down, I’ve always known I’d somehow end up in the music industry.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and what you do today? If so, how?

Growing up, I went to fourteen different schools. From boarding school to teaching myself at home, all were instrumental in how I learn and react to situations today. Homeschooling really gave me the edge of being able to understand how I learn and pick-up information best. Once you have that understanding, I promise you’ll be able to complete tasks that should take weeks, in just a few hours. I had to condense two years of learning into a matter of months both for GCSE and A Level, and as you can imagine, it was pretty intense. Yet ultimately, those periods have allowed me to develop immense discipline and organisation, which I use everyday today.

How would you describe the way you work?

I have the motto that everything, and everyone, is reachable. It’s just about establishing those connections, what they could produce, and how to monetise, then working to make it happen. Nothing is unachievable.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

I’m someone who really doesn’t excel under repetitive routines. For me, the idea of a stable career is just not appealing and I love the volatile nature of a career in music, despite how stressful it can sometimes be. What’s more, I also have a passion for discovering talent and doing all that I can to ensure it’s recognised. So a career where I can have and do all this AND make money? Sign me up.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

As cringe as it sounds, my parents are my best friends. Both different in their own rights but ultimately, they’ve very much influenced how I am today. I have a very close relationship with my dad who introduced me to vinyl and how the music industry has evolved over time. Mum also worked in music, for UMG, and wanted to ensure that myself and my siblings all had an appreciation of the arts from a very young age. Whilst she educated us on the theatre, taking us to West End productions and ballet, I picked up instruments while my sister delved into dancing. I adore the creative industries and admire anyone with a talent. I’m also hugely inspired when I see my friends succeeding. They’re all doing such amazing things and it’s so great to be a part of their journeys.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music?

I'm a huge fitness freak. If I’m not doing something music related, I guarantee I’m at the gym or doing some sort of sport. It’s so good for the mind and my sanity lol. #boxforabsnotviolence

What are some of your music career goals for the future?

I want to disrupt the industry. There are too many archaic structures in this music biz that NEED to be broken. I also want to help cross over UK talent to the US and keep helping artists reach their true potential.

Where can we follow you on social media?

I’m on Instagram as @sophiebeeching or catch me talking for hours about nonsense on clubhouse, also as @sophiebeeching.
